Gramicci has been producing functional clothing for life outdoors since 1982. Beginning in the 1970s, a group of climbers called the Stonemasters were pioneering a new way of climbing in Yosemite National Park - focused on speed & style. Their way of climbing required new gear, as they found their typical army surplus gear and generalist painter pants lacked the flexibility they desired out of their uniform. Mike Graham, one such Stonemaster with an aptitude for design - set about creating the first pair of climbing focused shorts. As such, Gramicci was born in 1982 - taking its name from a moniker given to Graham during an “all-Italian” ascent of Yosemite’s notorious Half-Dome. After shorts, came trousers - and the brand’s appeal began to spill over into surfer and skater circles throughout California. Gramicci then found favor on the streets of Tokyo, which soon thereafter became Gramicci’s new home. In the 40 years since the first pair of shorts were sewn together in Graham’s garage, the ethos has remained unchanged - hard-wearing, functional clothing, designed with movement firmly in mind.
