ENDS and MEANS is a Japanese label designed by one Taro Uchiyama. Established in Tokyo circa 2011, Taro has since moved operations to Mie Prefecture along the Pacific coastline. When my pal Sam McInnis showed me ENDS and MEANS for the first time a little over a year ago, I could not have possibly understood why I was so immediately drawn to its designs… It turns out Taro and I share a lot of things in common – we both didn’t study fashion, we both studied in London, we’re both based along the Pacific coastline, and we’re both heavily inspired by local streetwear, workwear & global hip hop cultures. Taro’s interest in vintage outdoor, military, and workwear clothing, combined with his touchstone interests in hip hop and urahara cultural movements – form the foundation for the ENDS and MEANS aesthetic.
